What is Canesten Vaginal?
Canesten containing the active ingredient clotrimazole is considered an azole antifungal type of medication. The medication is mainly prescribed to treat vaginal thrush by stopping the growth and killing yeast fungus. Treating vaginal thrush can help reduce itching, burning and vaginal discharge caused by the infection.
How is Canesten Vaginal used?
Canesten is usually applied to the vagina once per day at bedtime or as otherwise directed by a doctor. The tablet should be applied directly to the vaginal area by using your hands or the applicator. To apply the medication, lie down on your back with your knees towards the chest and insert the tablet or applicator into the vagina as far as it will comfortably go. Slowly press the plunger of the applicator to release the tablet. Withdraw the applicator, pull it apart and wash with soap and warm water after each use. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage and length of treatment as it will depend on the patient's condition and their response to the therapy.

Warnings

Immediately proceed to your nearest emergency department if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.
Canesten Vaginal is not always suitable for all patients.
