Mebendazole (Vermox)

Threadworm is a common problem among children and is highly contagious. It can easily spread between family members. If any family member has threadworm, all family members should be treated at the same time to prevent re-infestation. Symptoms of threadworm include itching around the anus, irritability and restless sleep and a lack of appetite. One tablet of Vermox as a single dose can kill all threadworms in the intestine and these are usually expelled within three days. Whipworm, roundworm and hookworm are less common than threadworm and can also be treated by Mebendazole (Vermox). Vermox is available as a chocolate-flavoured chewable tablet that children will love or as an orange flavoured tablet.

Please note: This product is the chocolate-flavoured chewable tablet We also stock packs of orange-flavoured tablets.

Mebendazole (Vermox) Dosage and Administration

Mebendazole can be taken by anyone over the age of 2. One tablet as a single dose will kill threadworm. Threadworm is highly contagious, so all family members take a dose at the same time. It is also important to shower and wash thoroughly (especially around the anus and your hands and fingernails). All clothes and bed linen should be washed in hot water to remove any eggs. Mebendazole kills the worms, but not the eggs, so a follow-up dose may be required in some cases.

Mebendazole (Vermox) Precautions

Mebendazole should not be taken by infants under 2 years old.

Mebendazole (Vermox) for Other Worm Infections

While threadworm is the most common problem treated with Vermox, other worms (whipworm, roundworm and hookworm) can also be treated. If you are unsure what type of worm you have, check with your medical professional.
